After applying transparent washes wet into wet, and then drying the underpainting, I began building color with thick out-of-the tube watercolors including more opaque watercolors (as well as titanium white and neutral tint) all of which provided excellent coverage. I used traditional brushes, a pallette knife, and the end of a paint brush handle to scrape, apply and slather on paint using an "impasto" and scraffito method.
