What's To Come?

SOLD This 5x7 watercolor landscape was painted a good year after attending a workshop given by Sterling Edwards.  He was demonstrating skies ( a stormy one at that), and I did a series of "sky" paintings, attempting to capture moods and weather.

Blazing Snowfield I and II

Original watercolor landscapes by Janis Goldblatt - measures 3.5x3.5 image.
Here in Colorado, we have had a major snowfall in the past two days.  It is truly a winter wonderland as I gaze outside my studio windows.  I was inspired to finish these two miniatures that I started several weeks ago (before getting sidetracked with spring florals).

Two Turtles

Two Turtles by Janis Goldblatt.
Watercolor on Yupo - 13x18, image.
I had the pleasure of meeting these wonderful "red eared sliders" at Bath Gardens and just had to capture their relationship with one another as they relaxed on the slate slabs and enjoyed the misty waterfalls.

Exercise from Thomas Schaller Workshop -stepping stones in pond

This painting was done as 22x15 exercise in the Thomas Schaller Workshop....which was absolutely excellent!!!    Tom demonstrated his approach to his painting, working from one of his photographs, and value sketches......   the participants were then asked to replicate the subject, composition and approach.  Of course, I did not "replicate" his beautiful painting, but certainly learned a lot from the exercise!  If you have a chance, please visit his website:

Sunshine Woman

Private Collection Watercolor Figurative Monochromatic Study by Janis Goldblatt, measuring 11x8 image on Arches 140lb cold press..  Inspired by Celia and Michael, dear sister-in-law and dear brother, respectively.  Painted on a cold day in Colorado.....the setting creates a longing for me to be somewhere sunny and warm... like on Lake Champlain in the summer!

We have many sunny, pristine winter days here in Colorado.  This miniature painting came to me after walking in freshly fallen snow last month.  Enjoy!
